Testing and Wireless Certification
Testing and obtaining certification are the next steps after the finish of initial design and prototyping, but how can you validate that your antenna performance meets the required standards, and what certifications does your device need? This article will discuss the types of testing your antennas must undergo and the certifications required for global market entry. These tests and certifications will help you successfully launch your products to the global market.
Over-the-Air(OTA) Testing
Testing antennas in a fully anechoic chamber is called OTA (over-the-air) testing. A full device OTA testing will provide a comprehensive assessment of an antenna’s performance.
You will get the data of a wireless below:
- The Total Radiated Power(TRP) — Including Gain,Efficiency, S11, etc)
- The total isotropic sensitivity (TIS) — 2D or 3D Radiation Patterns, etc)
Pre-compliance Testing
Pre-compliance testing can be defined as the preliminary evaluation of a device for certification. It is the best way to identify if a device underlines a potential possibility to meet all relevant certifications. Especially for devices using Bluetooth or WLAN, early testing benefits the addressing of potential performance faults before they manifest themselves. Conducting the tests as early into a project as possible aids in the avoidance of delay or costly redesign elements of the product to enable effective performance.
- The Total Radiated Power (TRP)
TRP is an active measure of how much power is radiated in all directions by an antenna when connected to an actual radio transmitter. It is measured in an anechoic chamber with a testing system.
- The Radiated Spurious Emissions (RSE)
An RSE test is an important required test item for the 3GPP standard and the FCC’s North American standard certifications. It evaluates uncontained (radiated) electromagnetic waves, which often appear as signals in frequency. Erroneous frequencies are a waste of energy.
- The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)
A SAR test explains how much RF energy is absorbed by the human body or head when using handheld devices. Or shows the absorption of material near an antenna, such as the housing materials.
Enviromental Testing
Rigorous environmental testing is necessary for keeping equipment operation function, and durability, as well as the verification of compliance.
- Temperature Cycling Test
- Humidity Test
- Vibration Test
- Salt Spray Test
- UV Aging Test

Device Certifications
With Shenzhen's vast resources, and trusted technology and distribution partners around the world, Aboosty strives to be the most integrated platform for creating hardware solutions for IoT, edge AI applications.
Each market has specific certification requirements. You need to verify local regulations before entering a target market.
Certification Roadmap
After determining the specific certification standards based on the target market and carrier requirements, find a reliable and authoritative certification body to help you with the conduction.
Cellular network approval can cost tens of thousands of dollars per submission, and failed devices must be re-submitted, so pre-certification testing can save time and money and reduce risks.
The device gets fully tested, including wireless performance, battery performance, system security, interoperability, hardware reliability, and compatibility.
Pre-testing noticeably increases the pass rate of formal certification, hence effectively speeding up the products' market release.
